What a Difference a Day Makes

Peoples Bank of Alabama believes in investing time in the community through financial literacy efforts. Our What A Difference A Day Makes initiative launched in 2019 and continues today with a focus on building stronger, more affluent communities. The following efforts are in place and available upon request.

Elementary School: Financial Education

Classroom participants will listen to a bank team member teach a financial education skill based on teacher’s choice as appropriate for his/her classroom. Students will learn key background concepts, engage with subject-specific text, and practice demonstrated skills in a student-centered way.

Middle and High School: Banking Basics

Participants learn banking terminology, as well as how to read a payroll check, how to write a check, how to create a budget, credit score basics and how to compare and contrast varying banking products and services.

Elementary, Middle, or High School: Career Days

Elementary age students learn the skills demonstrated in the image below and receive coloring sheets for various banking jobs that are discussed.

Middle and high school students learn the skills required to be in the financial industry and receive training on how to apply for a job and they practice sample interview questions.

Senior Centers: Fraud Prevention

Fraud among older adults is rampant. This seminar focuses on the lessons found here (link to FDIC: Money Smart - A Financial Education Program) that cover topics like investment fraud, telephone and internet scams, phantom debt collections scams, charity scams and much more.

Smart Credit Seminars

Your credit history can affect your access to credit, loans, jobs, housing, insurance, and other important services. Understanding your rights helps you know how to protect your credit history. Participants learn what a credit report is and what is listed on their credit report, what a credit score is and what a good credit score looks like, as well as a basic understanding of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Smart Business Seminars

The Federal Trade Commission works to help small business owners avoid scams, protect their computers and networks, and keep their customers’ data safe. Participants in this seminar learn about common scams that target small businesses, scammers’ tactics, how to protect your business, the importance of verifying invoices and payments, and much more.
